My friend's older brother, (by a good 5 or 6 years), found NYHC in its earliest incarnation. When he wasn't around we would play his records and make tapes. I had a mini-halfpipe in the backyard at the time. I would set up the stereo speakers on the back porch and my friends and I would skate to the likes of Underdog, Warzone, Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, and so on. I started going to shows in 1987. In 1989 I published Face It Fanzine #1. Maximum Rock N Roll somehow got a copy and published my address. I was swamped with letters and quickly put out issue #2. I also produced a 7" compilation featuring Krakdown, In Your Face, Bustin' Out, & Just Nice. By 1990, the New York scene had collapsed. CBGB's stopped doing shows again & the Pyramid Club wasn't happening. The Anthrax Club in Connecticut was closed due to noise complaints from the local community. I tried to get shows going again at the Right Track Inn in Freeport, on Long Island, but the guy who owned the place was too much of a problem to deal with. ABC no Rio had some of the last great shows of this period. The last issue of Face It was #3. Vegan Reich was just entering the picture. The face of Straight Edge was beginning to change. The more aggressive approach to Animal Rights appealed to me even if Sean's solution seemed unrealistic. My friends and I all graduated High School a little while later. Some moved into the Krsna Temple. I was still scheduled to produce Raging Doughboy Fanzine for my friend, Bill, and was in the works to press the Kingpin 7" & also the Refuse 7". I dropped those last projects, basically gave away my record collection, and went off to college. What I have assembled here are the few mementoes I have managed to hold onto. Thanks to all involved.
